Plant Ecology and Diversity - A New Journal for 2008

BSS has launched a new quarterly scientific journal, Plant Ecology and Diversity. The first issue of the new journal Volume 1 No. 1 was published in July 2008 by Taylor & Francis and is in circulation now, with a theme centred on treelines.  The second issue will  contain 19 papers on the historical biogeography, diversity (both species and genetic), conservation and management of the arctic and alpine flora.

Plant Ecology and Diversity will be the new forum of the Botanical Society of Scotland for communicating ideas in plant biological science. All areas of plant biology are of interest, including those which explicitly deal with today's highly topical themes, such as biodiversity, conservation and global change. Submissions concerning cold environments world-wide will be particularly welcome. A unique feature of Plant Ecology and Diversity will be a special section that reports ‘negative results’ and ‘repeat experiments’ that test ecological theories in an experimental way, offering an exclusive forum for theoretically flawless and methodologically sound papers. Also unique to Plant Ecology and Diversity will be its Scottish section, publishing contributions on aspects of botany and plant ecology particular to Scotland.

Plant Ecology and Diversity will replace the Botanical Journal of Scotland which was a continuation of the Transactions of the Botanical Society of Edinburgh, first published in 1844.  BJS and TBSE contained many high-quality peer-reviewed Research Papers, Review Articles, Short Communications and Book Reviews, and  some of the highlights of a century's output were reviewed and reproduced in the Botanical Journal of Scotland, Volume 58 (2).  It is hoped that this high-quality back catalogue will, in due course, be made available in electronic form.

BSS News, published  twice yearly in March and September, contains articles of topical and local interest, and is a means of keeping in touch with the Membership.
